2020 has been one for the books! This winter, we are looking forward to simple pleasures: holiday traditions, a mug of hot chocolate, and a cozy reading nook.  As we reflect on this year, we wanted to share a big Thank You to you, our friends and partners. Your support has helped us provide 25 million children with print and digital books this year. And just yesterday on Giving Tuesday, we nearly reached our goal and raised over $24,000! So, thank you for your continued support and we hope you will celebrate this season with RIF’s suggested winter and holiday books and activities.

Season's Readings

Winter is such an exciting time. Children are on winter break, holiday traditions are being celebrated, and memories are being created. No matter which winter holiday you and the young reader in your life celebrate, there are so many opportunities to introduce children to the many diverse holidays traditions taking place around the world. Get in the spirit of the holidays by exploring RIF's delightful collection of multicultural winter and holiday-themed books and activities in our Winter Days Book Collection.

This year's Giving Tuesday success means even more books in the hands of children. Please help us reach even more children during this time when books are so needed.

14 Years of Free RIF Books with State Farm

RIF and State Farm teamed up for a 14th year to support children’s literacy in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. Through the generosity of State Farm, RIF was awarded a Good Neighbor Citizenship grant to bring books, in partnership with State Farm local agents, to over 1,200 children this school year. In addition, State Farm agents and employees are going above and beyond by providing special read-aloud videos to engage children learning from home. To learn more about this wonderful initiative, read our press release below.

Giving The Gift of Knowledge this Season

Nikeya Jarrett is an educator and dedicated literacy advocate at Anne Beers Elementary School located in Washington, D.C. For several years now, her school has been an active RIF program site.

She says, "When I became a School Library Media Specialist in 2007, my goal was to focus on literacy development, how to provide students with access to at-home libraries, and reinforce the importance of creating a 'Culture of Reading' within the urban communities I served. RIF has always supported and provided books for my events, and now they help with a monthly book distribution due to virtual learning."

Every year, Ms. Jarrett gives “the gift of knowledge” at her annual family literacy night where each student receives a gift bag with two books and fun reading activities from RIF for the holidays. We applaud Ms. Jarrett’s work as a literacy leader!
