Celebrate Hispanic Culture and Heritage

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15th - October 15th of each year and children's books are one of the most important tools to engage children throughout the month and teach them about race, equity, diversity and inclusion. Children's books can act like both mirrors and windows -- mirrors in that they can reflect on children's own lives, and windows in that they can give children a chance to learn about someone else's life.

Browse Reading Is Fundamental's (RIF) Hispanic Heritage Month Collection with supporting reading activities and help children learn about themselves and others to celebrate Hispanic culture and heritage.

History Books Children Will Love

RIF partnered with The White House Historical Association (WHHA) this fall to inspire children who love learning about history. In addition to donating books to RIF, WHHA is also our guest host for two very special guest read-alouds highlighting children's history books.

Last month, five-year-old Rocco Smirne and his mother and co-author, Arioth Harrison Smirne, read their book A White House Alphabet, a new children's book that teachers young readers about the President's House using the 26 letters of the alphabet. In case you missed it, click on the button below to watch the video and mark your calendars for a second special guest read-aloud of Presidents Play! premiering on October 19th on Facebook.

Support RIF's Fall Book Drive

We're a month into the new school year, and the toll of virtual learning and months out of school is really starting to show. That's why RIF is launching a Fall Book Drive with a goal of raising $25,000 to distribute books in alternative ways including meal distribution sites, expand our free online resources, and more. RIF has delivered thousands of books to children nationwide since the pandemic and with your donation today, we'll deliver thousands more.

Give Books Instead of Candy this Halloween

Some Halloween traditions may look different this year to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. However, there are still plenty of ways families can have fun! This year, we encourage you to sign up for Skybrary, and you'll get 30 free days to explore fun and magical Halloween tales. Check out our favorite trick-or-treat story Halloween Forest, written by Marion Dane Bauer and narrated by LeVar Burton.
