There are many reasons to celebrate reading this September – it is National Literacy Month (with literacy celebrated worldwide on International Literacy Day September 8th today), children are back in school filled with reading opportunities, and RIF just launched an exciting new reading engagement initiative, Rally to Read 100. Find new and creative ways in this month's newsletter to celebrate literacy and inspire a love of reading in the classroom and beyond.

RIF Launches Rally to Read 100!

RIF launched an exciting new 6-month initiative Rally to Read 100 on September 1st in celebration of reaching the milestone of serving 100 million children since our founding in 1966. And, as children across the nation return to school after a year of disrupted learning, there is no more important time to rally around our nation’s students, educators, and families to support increased reading frequency and enthusiasm. This special initiative features a reading theme, notable author and illustrator read-alouds, book lists, reading activities, and more each month to engage and motivate our nation's young readers. Explore the books and read-alouds, download the free resources, and take the pledge to read 100 books by Read Across America Day! Plus, educators can enter daily for a chance to win 100 diverse books for your school or organization.

Be sure to check out all the wonderful free reading resources on our site and check in with us monthly for new reading fun!

Thank You, Macy's!

We are happy to share that through the Macy's Gives campaign, over $1.7 million was raised in support of RIF’s mission! Thank you to the many generous Macy's shoppers and RIF supporters who rounded up at checkout in stores and donated online through the month of August. The funds raised will enable more children to read, learn, and grow this school year. An enormous thanks goes out to 18-year-long partner, Macy’s, and all who participated. In recognition of Macy's long-standing commitment to children's literacy, we are proud to recognize them with the RIF 2021 Champion of Children's Literacy award.

RIF Joins Project Involve

RIF joins 24 other organizations on Project Involve, an online platform created by high school junior Aashi Chandna. Aashi created this platform to help students "find the right avenue to direct their passions" and get them connected to different non-profit organizations tackling large social inequities. Share the platform with the students and teens in your life so they can learn how to get involved with RIF today to drive literacy impact in their own communities.
